Shalom House of Prayer

For God said “ Go to Carcoar, re-open the old Convent and make it a place where my people can come and establish or renew their relationship with me".

Built in 1874 and 1870 respectively, the old convent/boarding school (St Joseph’s Mount) and the Church of the Immaculate Conception provide the peaceful environment for the Shalom praying community who are drawn to a fuller expression of inner spiritual life and the rhythm of daily prayer.
Set at the top of a hill overlooking the historic sleepy village of Carcoar, the surrounding countryside of rolling hills and farmland provide a backdrop of large space and slow time that visitors to Shalom House of Prayer find conducive to prayer and rest in God.
Shalom House of Prayer is known for its hospitality where guests can stay for a few hours for quiet personal prayer, meditation or silence in the church, chapel, meditation room or gardens - or a weekend retreat, conference or simply for time out.
Guests are invited to join the community as they pray the Liturgy of the Hours, Lectio Divina, or spiritual conversation and meditation.
The Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation are also available when there is a priest in residence.
Special prayer requests are always welcome via telephone or email and are prayed for daily..
